LASER HAIR REMOVAL

The Inmode Diode Laser is a hair removal device safe for all skin types. By shaving the treatment area, the hair follicle is cut off, leaving the root of the follicle in place. This allows the laser to kill the root and permanently reduce the amount of hair over several treatments. A gel is applied to the skin to act as a barrier between the skin and the laser, to allow smooth gliding of the handpiece. The handpiece has a cooling system built in to cool the skin as the laser is firing, aiding in comfort.

Where can Laser Hair Removal be performed?

Any body part can be treated as long as there is enough hair. Thick, dark and coarse hair attracts the laser best. Finer, thin hairs can also be treated but may require more treatments. Blonde, white, grey and ginger hair will not attract the laser because they lack pigment. The face can also be treated if there is a significant amount of hair. However, a laser can stimulate dormant hair follicles to grow, so it is recommended to do a consultation prior to booking to assess the areas and make sure you are a good candidate.

The most common areas for Laser Hair Removal include:

  • Legs
  • Bikini line/Brazilian
  • Arms
  • Back
  • Stomach
  • Chest
  • Upper lip
  • Chin

How many Laser Hair Removal treatments do I need?

It is recommended to have 6-8 treatments for a significant reduction in hair. Up to 80% of hair will be permanently destroyed. Maintenance for the remaining 20% can be done as needed once or twice a year. Treatments range from 4-6 weeks apart for the face, and 6-8 weeks apart for the body. Once the hair begins to thin and takes longer to regrow, treatments can be prolonged up to 12 weeks if needed.

How long does Laser Hair Removal last?

Once your series of treatments are complete, the hair is permanently gone forever. The remaining few hairs can be shaved, waxed, or plucked for smooth skin, but razor bumps and skin irritation will not happen due to the fineness of the remaining sparse hair. Hormonal areas such as the face, underarms and bikini may require more maintenance with the laser periodically through the year because these areas produce hair as a protection method by the body. During or after pregnancy may also stimulate the regrowth of hair due to the significant hormonal changes a woman may go through. Women with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) will also experience regrowth and will need more treatments and/or maintenance.

What are the common side effects of Laser Hair Removal?

  • Burns and blisters
  • Redness/irritation
  • Bruising
  • Itching and sensitivity
  • Pain and discomfort
  • Ingrown hairs and acne breakouts
  • Broken capillaries
  • Herpetic breakouts

How do I prep before and after my Laser Hair Removal treatment?

If you are considering laser hair removal, it is imperative to only shave for 6 weeks before treatment. Waxing, plucking, or any other form of removing the hair from the root will impair the results of the laser because there needs to be a root in order to be effective. It is also important not to be tanned during your laser hair removal process. An active tan can cause burns. It is safe to proceed with laser hair removal once your tan has faded for 4-6 weeks from your last sun exposure. Prior to your appointment, it is recommended to shave the night before to avoid skin irritations and razor burn which may make the skin more sensitive and hot post-treatment. If you have open cuts, sores or a rash the treatment must be postponed.

After your treatment, exercising, hot showers, saunas, steam rooms and using active skincare should be postponed for 24-48 hours. Sun exposure is not recommended during your treatment series but if you are planning a vacation in between, it is best to have your appointment one week before your trip. Continuously shaving is permitted and exfoliating the skin lightly once a week will help with reducing ingrown hairs, especially if the hair type is thick and curly.
